The historic Natchez Trace Parkway is home to 444 miles of North American history dating back 10,000 years. Along those miles are countless points of interests for travellers. But the best part? All of the Trace’s parks and trails are pet friendly for leashed animals!
It would be almost impossible to explore the dozens of sites the Trace has to offer in one trip, but we’ve narrowed them down to three must see spots that you and your pet can enjoy on your trip down one of America’s most historic roadways.
Outdoor dining at French Camp
One of the liveliest points on the Trace—and one of the most delicious—is the French Camp Historical District, an historic American log cabin village. The site is home to the French Camp Log House Museum, LeFlore Carriage House, Black Smith Shop, and the famous Council House Café and Bakery. Six days a week this much beloved café offers delicious sandwiches, soups and more to energize you for walks along Trace trails without weighing you down. Your travel companion may not be allowed inside the café, but there’s outdoor seating on a classic, Southern porch where you can leash your friend as the two of you enjoy the beautiful outdoor weather and one-of-a-kind meal.
Council House Café is open to the public Mon. – Sat. from 10:30 a.m. to 7 p.m.
French Camp Log House Museum & Gift shop are open Mon. – Sat. 9 a.m. – 4 p.m.
Room to run at the Reservoir
Offering a chance to stretch your legs, play catch with your pal, and take a stroll, the scenic reservoir overlook offers beautiful scenes of the Ross Barnett Reservoir. The large park has miles of trails for bikers and hikers alike. With marinas nearby, you can even unhitch the boat for a day on the water. However you like to spend your time outdoors, the Reservoir Overlook is definitely a way you and your pet can spend quality time along the Natchez Trace.
Dog-friendly lodging at Harmony Farm
As you and your pet experience all the Natchez Trace has to offer, take a load off at Harmony Farm.
